Leave policies people actually use

Most leave confusion comes from three questions: what types of leave exist, how many days each person has, and who approves the request. If any of those is unclear, people either ask in chat or stop asking and take leave without telling anyone.
Start with a short list of leave types
Annual, sick, and unpaid leave cover most small teams. Add more types only when a real case needs them, because every extra type is one more thing to explain.
Make balances visible
When people can see their own balance before they request time off, fewer requests are rejected and fewer people are surprised at payroll. Clipinn shows balances next to each request, so the decision is made with the numbers in front of it.
- Define each leave type once, with its paid or unpaid status and default allowance.
- Assign approvers by role or department, so requests do not wait on one person.
- Use holidays and off days so they are not counted against anyone's balance.
